According to Darien Police, in November 2019, a resident called police to report their vehicle was missing from their driveway, said Sgt. James Palmieri.

The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside, police said.

Several days later, Darien Police were informed that the stolen vehicle had engaged Bridgeport Police in pursuit and the suspect had gotten away on foot.

Detectives responded to the vehicle and processed it for evidence. Also found in the Jeep was a facsimile firearm made to look like a Desert Eagle gun. Trace evidence recovered on the Jeep lead investigators to a suspect, identified as Hector Rios, age 19, of Bridgeport.

Rios matched the description of the suspect who exited the Jeep after the pursuit in Bridgeport, police said.

An arrest warrant for Rios was applied for and granted. On Tuesday, May 25, Darien Police were notified that Rios was in the custody of the Milford Police.

Officers went to Milford where they took custody of Rios. He was transported to headquarters where he was charged with larceny and weapons in a motor vehicle.

Rios was held on a $100,000 bond.
